Chippenham 6-a-side report.

A very early start for a Sunday morning 6-a-side tournament at Chippenham YFC.

As with the league, it was our first taste of competitive style football. This time within a 6-a-side tournament.

Three group games, with the top two progressing to the semi final.

Each game would be five minutes each way. This was a little worrying, as traditionally it takes the MYFC team ten minutes to get in the swing of the game and find their feet.

Our first game against Chippenham yfc started out as it usually does. MYFC looked a little unsteady on their feet and a little panicked. The bulk of the game was played in the MYFC half. This lead to MYFC falling a goal behind.
MYFC kept themselves in the game, by starting to pick up the pace. This created a chance out of nothing from the MYFC defensive line. A long range (scorer has said pass, we will put it down as a shot) shot, ended up cleanly in the back of Chippenham’s net. After the MYFC goal they looked alive and positive, as if they needed to go a goal behind to make them step up to the mark.
We were happy to take the draw.

Our second game against Westbury yfc was a completely different story. MYFC had their ten minutes warm up in the first game, and this time were out of the blocks fast from the start.
In their earlier game, Westbury yfc looked a good footballing side, looking to have the ball at their feet all game long. MYFC did not look out of place in this game. We coped extremely well with Westbury’s pressure, and MYFC applied an equal amount of pressure themselves. End to end determined football throughout this game finished in a 0-0 draw.
A very good performance and a fair scoreline.

Our final group game against Castle Combe needed to finish with an MYFC win, to give us a chance of going through to the semi finals.
MYFC were now looking like a very strong, competitive team. Creating a number of chances through well worked passing football.
Throughout this whole game, MYFC looked as though they could come away with the win. But as in the second game, the score finished 0-0.

Despite the slow MYFC start, MYFC proved they can keep themselves within a game, no matter how tough.
An all round great team performance and individual performances too.
Amazing goal keeping, in every game. Coming off the line to close the ball down, time and time again. Positive, great saves, even using his cap to save a shot at one point.
Great, determined defending, keeping their team in the game. they Stayed calm at the back, choosing to play the ball up the pitch, instead of hoofing it anywhere.
Brilliant play from the midfield/strikers. They consistently showed us some great passing moves towards goal. Finally working as a team, choosing passes at the right time and taking players on at the right times as well.
We also saw three MYFC players putting their bodies on the line. A great body block of the ball, and a couple of very determined tackles brought a tear to our eye, as we have been trying to get this type of determination within the team for some time.

Who would of thought not losing a game would not get you through the group stage!

Well done MYFC.

Despite not losing a game, we had to go home early. This takes nothing away from the team performance.
