Saturday 15th October saw Malmesbury U8 host a mini “World Cup” tournament with special guest Cirencester Youth at the Red Bull pitches.

Four teams (Spain, Italy, Brazil and Portugal) took the field to play a round robin of three matches each, in an attempt to be crowned “Tournament Galatico’s”.

Malmesbury boys shone as brightly as the Autumn sunshine where spectators were treated to some excellent football and some fiercely competitive games.

From the coaches point of view, it was very encouraging to see such strength in depth, with so many good performances.

As usual we witnessed some excellent goal keeping (Dan Tenerife, Louis Corbett and Loclan Anderson), visionary passing (William Evans), tenacious tackling (James Hulme, Oli/Tobi Tappin) and excellent finishing (Ed/Henry Watling and Charlie Berryman-Jenkins ).

Results were as follows:

Teams:
Spain (Malmesbury 1)
Italy (Malmesbury 2)
Brazil (Cirencester 1)
Portugal (Cirencester 2)

Match One
Spain 0 vs 0 Brazil
Portugal 2 vx 1 Italy (Charlie Hosking)

Match Two
Italy 0 v 2 Spain (2 Charlie Berryman-Jenkins)
Brazil 1 v 2 Portugal

Match Three
Spain 1 (Louis Corbett) v 0 Portugal
Brazil 2 v 3 Italy (2 Ed Watling, 1 Henry Watling)

Spain (Malmesbury 1) ran out eventual winners of the tournament however all boys deserve credit for their team spirit and sportsmanship.

Our special thanks to Richard Hulme for his refereeing and to all the children/parents from both clubs for their fantastic support.
