It was finally here, the first game of our new season as MYFC under 11’s, at home in our new Hilditch kit playing against Melksham United Hurricanes.

The short version of the match report – Just Brilliant!

For the longer version, read on…….

This is a new Division for us after successfully moving up out of the yellow division into the purple. It was an unknown so we were just going to see how MYFC coped with the new, bigger pitch and format incorporating the offside rule and 9 v 9 and then work from there.

The size of pitch we will be playing on this season can only be approached one way if players are to last the whole game – the passing way. Both teams did this amazingly well.

MYFC started strong with confident passing throughout the team and stretching the game across the whole width of the pitch too.

This led to what can only be described as possibly the best worked team goal we will see this season. Using good passing, great width and a well executed cross, it all led to a wonderful strike into the back of the net! A GREAT team effort and one that us coaches were extremely proud of.

The style of football we want the team to be playing is a style we believe will develop the players to become good, well rounded players that are confident on the ball, can pass and understand how their movement off the ball affects the game. MYFC showed great signs of this throughout the whole game and we have set a good foundation to build on.

Despite a little dip in MYFC focus midway through the game we were looking extremely good. We were creating a lot of chances, chances that we will learn to put away across the season. One chance we did take, this created our second goal which was an individual goal of style, again using width with a very fine finish another one to be proud of.

A solid performance from the MYFC back line which earned one of them our Man Of The Match, given for his tireless efforts covering, supporting and recovery runs. The back line was also complimented with some top class saves from the keepers.

Ths was an end to end game which we know every player and spectator from both teams enjoyed. We certainly did as coaches.

Despite the end score we have set the standards very high from the style of football played to the atmosphere at the Red Bull – a high standard that we will expect to maintain.

If this is what we get to experience on the first game of the season we cannot wait for the rest of the season!

Both teams and both sets of spectators should be very proud of the achievements on that day and long may it continue.
