MALMESBURY YOUTH ANNUAL PRESENTATION DAY 2011
Many thanks to the Mayor of Malmesbury, Steve Cox, the boys, girls, parents, families, coaches and committee members of Malmesbury Youth who made the annual presentation day on 21st May 2011 a big success.
The annual event is staged to acknowledge the commitment and effort of all of the boys and girls of all age groups throughout the season with each player receiving a team trophy and individual teams and players receiving acknowledgement of successes within their teams.
With club numbers growing the event was divided into two sessions. The first session showed just how much the club is growing with fifty boys and girls in the under fives and sixes age group and increased numbers enabling most of the under seven to eleven teams being able to have two teams per age group which is good news for the future of the club.
Dave Buckley organised a mini tournament following the presentation, Steve Coleman organised a football target shoot out and Sam Reid a BBQ; good weather contributed to the event being a big hit with all of the youngsters and raised funds for the club.
The second session started with the Hilary Timms memorial Trophy match being played between combinations of the club’s two under 16s teams playing the team coaches and helpers. The match was eagerly contested with both teams showing moments of magic especially some of the older coaches who seemed to forget their age and regain their youth even if it was for short spells!
Greame Brown refereed the match with both teams hit the woodwork during the game but the under 16s team deserved their 3 – 2 win, but I would say that as one of the under 16s coaches.
The presentation of trophies followed for the under 12s to 16s with team coaches awarding team trophies and individual trophies to mark the successes in each team. Members of the under 16s team who had played for the club for eight or more years also received a long service trophy to recognise their commitment to the club, in all I thoroughly enjoyed the day as did everyone who was there many thanks to all once again.
