Malmesbury Youth Football Club players and club personnel turned out in force on Saturday to welcome new club sponsors.

Who would have thought that a conversation about football at a family wedding between Piers Lavan, from Sherston based Hortico Plant & Flowers nursery and his brother Guy, owner of international art consultancy Pelham Europe Ltd, could have such a great positive outcome for Malmesbury Youth Football Club.

But both Guy and Piers – who sponsored the Under 11 Tornadoes team as his son is a team member – have provided new kits for every youth team from the Under 6s to the Under 16s as well as special training balls, new goal nets and a defibrillator at the club.

“The club is a massive part of the community”, said Piers “Both my boys love playing football here and its only possible because of a great group of volunteers and coaches. We are delighted to be able to show our support”.

Under 6 and Under 11 Tornadoes team coach Dave Buckley said: “It’s been a real pleasure to be able to provide all the boys and girls with new kits and training tops. Everything has been sourced through Sport & Leisure in Malmesbury, who have always supported our teams too”.

Dave Buckley hands over a signed Malmesbury Youth Shirt to Guy Bennett

Dave Buckley presents Guy Bennett from Pelham Europe Ltd with a signed Malmesbury Youth Football Club shirt, featuring the signature of legendary Arsenal and England captain Tony Adams.

The Malmesbury Youth FC shirts that are being retired will find a new home in Sierra Leone in West Africa where a local youth football organisation will distribute them to local teams.

A great day with smiles all round!
